I never thought the day would come but due to circumstances beyond my control I must sell my Buick GS Stage 1 collection. This listing is for my 70 Stage 1 4 speed convertible and I will be also listing my 1972 Stage 1 hardtop 4 speed as well.
I bought this car about 1.5 years ago from a gentleman who had owned it since 1992. The car was restored once in the mid 1980s and will need some restoration work to be real nice again but it is a solid car to work with. This is not a matching numbers car but I do have the sloan documents for it to show that it is a real 4 speed convertible which is one of only 67 made.
The body of the car is showing signs of age and bubbling from its previous restoration. It still looks good going down the road but should be redone the way it deserves to be. There is rust coming out on the quarters but the fenders, Doors and hood are all good and usable. The trunk floor was replaced with one from a donor car years ago and is solid but you can see where it was seemed in. The floors and frame are all very solid throughout the car. The bumpers and all of the trim are original to the car.
The interior is actually pretty nice. It does have a factory tach that works but I don't think it is real accurate. It has an aftermarket radio that works. The seats and door panels are all nice. It could use a new carpet in it. The top works fine and is actually nice with no rips. The dash is also nice with no cracks in it.
The engine is a 1970 455 from a Riviera. It runs well and at a good temperature. It does have a few exhaust leaks that don't sound the greatest and it could probably use a good tune up but it is responsive and powerful. The transmission shifts well. The shifter sits a little higher than stock but it works well and the clutch grabs good. The rear is a 3.64 posi which works fine. The steering and brakes all work well and it has good BFG tires on it. The car can be driven as is or would make a pretty eas restoration on a super rare car.
If you are looking for a car to restore that you can actually make money on this is the one. Matching number cars do $150k+ at the big sales. This car restored would probably still bring close to $100k or maybe more.
